The Wedge Trainer Debate

As Spring has Sprung, I feel I will start to break out the trainers again.  I like wearing them with ankle skimming jeans or trousers with no socks.  I feel the cold so I have to wear socks in the Winter and letting my ankles see the light of day just doesn't happen until around about now so my thoughts are turning to the trainer again.  Last year I purchased my first pair of Ash Jalouse boots.  They have been stuck on my feet, worn in so well (so well in fact that there was another bargain purchase last months which I will share next, promise).  One trend which I just couldn't get my head around was the wedge trainer.  I still have mixed feelings, I still think they look great on others but for some reason, every time I've tried them on, something felt wrong.

Ash Genial RRP £135
Maybe it's the leather, the price tag, the buckles, I'm just not sure.  But I just really like the idea of a trainer giving little old me some height.  I love wearing a heel which is why I have loved my Ash boots as the heel is the perfect height for every day wear.  I don't think I have written them off completely, more that perhaps I just haven't found the right ones yet.  I like the look of the Esprit ones below.  Maybe it's that they look a little more like a trainer but not as bulky as the Ash Bowie trainer - so a good in between.  I also think that the wedge is slightly more discreet which I like.

Esprit £59
Ash Bowie RRP £169
So have you succumbed to the wedge trainer yet?  Or will you be sticking with the flat versions?

  1. Oh this reminds me of a pair that I have lurking in the back of my wardrobe. That I've worn ... the once. They were comfy though but I never got to grips with them and I never did that automatic reach for them that I thought I would. I bought them in the winter when suede is not really the most ideal choice.

The Esprit ones are my favourites out of the ones shown though.

    1. Yes, I hear you, if you're not used to wearing and don't force yourself then they would probably get forgotten. You never know, they may get some more wear this year?
Nice aren't they, very tempted x

  2. Natalie you've hit the nail on the head there. I've got the Bowie in wine and they do seem a tad bulky so much so that I haven't worn them in ages. The ones you've featured are much lower and some how seem a little more current than the Bowies x

    1. Now that's two of you saying straight away you've not worn yours in ages, I think I definitely won't be spending a fortune, making the Esprit one's a good option x

  3. I also haven't worn my Ash Genials in ages, prefering to wear some of my other trainers, though if I had a pair of the Marant ones, no doubt they would be glued to my feet! xx

    1. I do love Gisele's Marant one's above, they look pretty cool on her, but then everything does! x

  4. Those Espirit ones are cute and like you said a lot less bulky and definitely a more subtle look, off to have a look x

  5. I absolutely adore the Ash Genial and still hanker after a pair in the clay colour. I love the idea of a wedge and have got tons of wear out of my wedge Converse. I also discovered last week, that in the US, wedge trainers are called 'sneels' i.e. sneakers with heels!

    1. Now I remember you saying before about the Converse wedge ones, I must check them out. Love the US, love their words! x

  6. I used to own the Ash Bowie ones but I eBayed them. Doh. In fairness they did make my feet look too small (a pet hate) I have some Ash Genials, in a khaki colour, which I will fish out now. I prefer a bit of a heel to completely flat. H xx
