The Down Jacket - SOS

I promise to update you on my purchases below but this is just a quick SOS for those out there with down jackets.  Anyone own a Musto - do you recommend?  I need something warm, ideally shower proof but not full length as I do get hot and flustered on school runs!  I tried this on in TK Maxx but found it cheaper online at Amazon (come on TK, you're normally fab on your prices!).

Musto £65.21 at Amazon
I have tried, without success, a few from Uniqlo.  I loved that these had a hood but they came up quite short in the body for me.  They also felt very masculine on me as were very 'puffy' (for want of a better word!).  At the time they only had the blue and grey with the wool panels down the front which may or may not have contributed to them feeling a little too bulky on me.  They now have the plain black back in stock but I am trying not to get too side tracked and remember I did feel it was a little short on me.

Uniqlo £79.90 down to £39.90
I've just found this one from North Face but even in the sale at £96, that's more than I wanted to spend on a throw on jacket for school run's.

Any other brands at a good price I've missed?  I failed to take a picture of me in the Musto one which is a shame but I think you get the idea from the above.  My only reserve on this style jacket (as I have a long knee length down one) is that as the fabric is so thin, they easily hole if caught - especially by cats claws!  But on the whole, the warmth from a lightweight jacket pretty much out weighs this.

PS Just as a note to myself (who appears it would seem to have a little coat/jacket addiction at present).  This style coat, plus a camel wool coat and potentially a really thick parker with furry hood is all that is missing from my coat department.  Nothing else needed.  Just saying.

  5. I think a puffa is something definitely something worth investing in to be honest. I've a North Face I've had for about 5 years. No it's not exactly fashion forward but there are times when nothing else will do if you are like me and need to be properly warm! xx

    1. I know, I feel like I might be selling this item short and it does need a bit more spent. Just that Musto one seemed like it was heavily discounted so thought it must be good quality. More research needed me thinks! And yes, I feel the cold, I hold my hands up, I wear thermals! x

  6. I know a friend who does snowboarding and he likes the Musto range - it's his go to shop when he goes to the York Outlet. He has a hoodie (not a down jacket) and he says it properly does the business - so it's more of a technical garment rather than a straight fashion piece. I would say, if you actually like it, want it and it fits you perfectly - that's the one. If you are dithering - it's not.

    1. You know me Sue - I'm always a ditherer!! The snow has hit us down South and am now in my knee length Nike down so I feel just wrong buying a short version. Maybe I'll wait until the Summer and buy it cheaper....! It did feel like a proper down jacket if that makes any sense, a very good quality one x

  7. I just can't do puffa jackets as I feel too Gangster in them! Being raised in the hood hasn't helped! Lol! They look great on everyone else but not me! x

  8. I got a nice long one from Mango and I have to say it's the best/most flattering 'puffa' coat EVER!
